| About the Memorial Fund |
The Anna Lindh Memorial Fund supports primarily women and young people who work in the spirit of Anna Lindh. They are people, who in their daily lives have the courage to fight indifference, prejudice, oppression and injustices in order to promote a good life for all people in an environment marked by respect for human rights.
The Anna Lindh Prize can go to an individual, organisation or project active in Sweden or abroad.
Background
In honour of the late foreign minister Anna Lindh, the Social Democratic Party inaugurated the Anna Lindh Memorial Fund Foundation on September 16, 2003, five days after she died.
The Foundation has no affiliation to any political party. The members of the board, who work on a voluntary basis, represent different spheres of society - political life, the private sector, trade unions, the Swedish Church and the cultural sphere.
Memorial Fund activity
The Anna Lindh Memorial Fund wants to contribute to an open and stimulating social debate about the issues that were dear to Anna Lindh. This is done through seminars and debates about current issues such as democracy, gender equality, international cooperation and solidarity or about the fight against violence and terrorism.
During the recent years the Memorial Fund has worked on different themes. The theme for 2007 was women’s leadership and for 2008 conflicts and conflict resolutions. The theme for 2009 is climate and human rights.
